NIMES: 5-V-09

An important crossroads in the ancient world, Nîmes is equally well known for its Roman antiquities such as the amphitheatre (Les Arènes) and the Maison Carrée, an elegant Roman temple. We watched a 25 minute 3-D film here about the Heroes of Nîmes. Many centuries ago, the town prospered from textile manufacturing, one of the most enduring products being denim, or “de Nîmes”. We wandered along the streets and sat by a fountain with a big crocodile, a sculpture by Martial Raysse which is represented in the city’s Coat of Arms.

Karl is impressing me to no end! He is so good at driving through a city he’s never been in before, finding parking in tight spots, negotiating narrow alleys, and getting us home safely. And he doesn't have GPS, just his homing pigeon instincts.
